First responders are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in every community across the country, and First Responders Children’s Foundation provides support for first responders and their families who are enduring financial hardship due to the coronavirus outbreak.

First responders are paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, and employees directly supporting police and fire departments such as 911 dispatchers.  The brave medical personnel and staff of the emergency services of the hospitals and health facilities that are treating COVID-19 patients shall be deemed first responders for the purpose of being eligible for grants from the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, First Responders Children’s Foundation has to date:

  • Funded more than 12,946 hotel room nights and meal stipends so first responders don’t have to go home and infect their families and / or can self-quarantine.
  • Awarded $4.19 million in grants to 3,053 first responders in all 50 states who have had financial hardship due to COVID-19.
  • Distributed more than 400,000 FDA-certified, surgical grade masks to first responders through the Mask Project without disrupting the supply chain of N95 masks for hospitals.
  • Is preparing to distribute a significant amount of hand sanitizer to first responders and tens of thousands of toys to children of first responders.
  • Paid for 16 funerals of first responders who died from COVID-19.
  • Will continue to support first responders for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Continues a 19 year mission funding millions of dollars in college scholarships benefiting hundreds of worthy children with first responder parents who have been killed or injured in the line of duty.

CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL (CDC) GUIDELINES RELATED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

We ask that all registrants certify that they will comply with the current CDC Guidelines and other directives from the Governor of their respective state in participating and completing their half marathon.  Our strong advice is to "RUN ALONE" or with your immediate family members. We all need to do our part to "stop the spread". Be safe and do your part.

Here are some ways to be safe and still get your workout, training or half marathon completed:

RUN ALONE!  We'll have plenty of opportunities to run in groups when this is all over.  If you do run with a partner maintain 6 feet or more distance at all times.
Use common sense about where you run and when you run.  Going to run 8 miles in a busy park on a nice Saturday morning probably isn't your best choice.  You may need to change up when you run and where you run.
Vary your routes.  This is a great opportunity to switch things up, just be sure that you are running in a safe area with wide paths, roadway or trails.
Be aware of your surroundings.  We are all vying for some of the same space when we are out exercising.  Be courteous of others and providing plenty of room when you pass. Crossing the street when possible is a great strategy.
Consider more workouts from home.  Lots of great things are happening with technology, online classes and exercise instruction.
